Mikael Lovell
Being a mother, student studying for a degree and becoming an entrepreneur, Madison John The Founder launched Mikael Lovell in 2020. Mikael Lovell is named after her son, in which she sells greeting cards to empower people’s ethnicity, colour and size. They’re illustrated and designed to make you feel good about yourself, and to put a smile on your face no matter the occasion.
Madison first approached me in 2019, discussing on her plans to start a business. It wasn't until late in 2019 we started working on her dreams.
She had a clear vision on her logo, she wanted it to have the colour gold and the letters on top of each other. It did not take plenty of samples, trial and error till we found the perfect logo. During this time we were close to the new year.
For the first released collection we decided to keep the illustrations black & white to let the emotion in the illustrations shine. This also allowed all melanin couples to be able to to use the cards but still feel represented.
I suggested to Maddison that we needed a card that can't be sent to anyone and everyone and not just couples. When I was young my mum would leave me Valentines card, flowers and chocolates as tradition she still does for my brother and sister. To me growing up Valentines isn't just for couples but it's sharing the day to people you love, friends or family.
